This sandwich is perfect when you’re in the mood for something quick but a little more interesting than plain toast. Turkey, melted cheese, a sweet apple, and crispy prosciutto go great together. Add a little mustard or yogurt dip between the slices of buttered toast, and your lunch or dinner is ready.

Difficulty simple
Ingredients
- 4 slices of toast
- 250–300 g turkey breast
- 2–4 slices of Black Forest ham or prosciutto
- 1 small apple
- 2–4 slices of Gouda or Cheddar
- A handful of fresh leaf lettuce
- A little butter for toasting bread
- A little olive oil
- Sweet ground paprika
- A pinch of chili
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- A little mustard, mayonnaise, or yogurt dip
Method
- Slice the turkey breast into thin slices so that it cooks evenly. Drizzle a little olive oil over the slices, then add sweet paprika, a pinch of chili powder, salt, and freshly ground pepper. Mix everything thoroughly so that the meat is well coated with the seasoning.
- Place the seasoned slices in the air fryer and cook at 180 °C for about 22 minutes. Cooking time depends on the thickness of the meat and the specific air fryer. The turkey should be cooked through but still juicy.
- For the last 3 minutes, add slices of Black Forest ham or prosciutto to the meat. Just let them brown slightly so they’re nice and crispy, but don’t let them burn.
- Meanwhile, melt a little butter in a skillet and toast the slices of bread on both sides until golden brown.
- Spread a layer of mustard, mayonnaise, or yogurt dip on the toasted bread. Top it with cooked turkey, thin apple slices, crispy ham, and cheese to taste. Gouda and cheddar are both great choices.
- Bake the filled sandwich for a short while so the cheese melts nicely and all the flavors blend together.
- Finally, add some fresh lettuce—and a little more yogurt dip, if desired—and top with the second slice of bread. Cut the sandwich in half, and secure the two halves with toothpicks to hold them together better.
Tips and tricks
- Ideally, prepare both the meat and the dip ahead of time so that the next day's prep goes as quickly as possible.
- To make assembly easier, place the cheese on the meat while it's still warm so that it softens slightly. Then add the apple, ham, and lettuce.
