Try my favorite recipe for healthy plum dumplings that my whole family loved! These dumplings are not only incredibly tasty, but also nutritious - the whole wheat flour, cottage cheese and sweet plums make them a lighter and healthier alternative to traditional dumplings. Believe me, once you try them, they will become a permanent fixture on your table just like they are on ours.

Ready in 30 minutes

Portion of 12 pieces

Difficulty simple
Ingredients
Ingredients for the dough:
- 250 g soft cottage cheese (preferably low-fat)
- 150 g wholemeal spelt flour (you can also use other wholemeal flour)
- 1 egg
- A pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon honey or other sweetener (optional)
- 6 plums, pitted
Ingredients for sprinkling:
- 1 tablespoon butter or coconut oil (for topping)
- 100 g ground poppy seeds
- 2 tablespoons cane sugar or coconut sugar
Method
- In a bowl, mix together the soft cottage cheese, whole wheat spelt flour, egg, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of honey if using. Make a smooth and non-sticky dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little flour, if it is too dry, you can add a little cottage cheese.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal parts. Flatten each part of the dough into a patty and place half a plum in the centre.
- Bring a large pot of water to the boil and season lightly with salt.Place the dumplings in the boiling water and cook for approximately 8-10 minutes until they float to the surface.
- In the meantime, mix the ground poppy seeds with cane sugar or coconut sugar. In a smaller pot or pan, melt the butter.
- Carefully remove the cooked dumplings from the water and let them drain briefly. Serve immediately, ideally warm.
Tips and tricks
○ For a lighter and softer dough, you can add a little finely ground oatmeal or almond flour. The oatmeal will add fiber and a slightly nutty flavor, while the almond flour will add softness.
○ If you want a sugar-free option, use shredded coconut or finely ground erythritol instead of cane sugar. Coconut sugar is a lower glycemic index alternative and will add a subtle caramel tone.
○ To prevent the dumplings from boiling over when cooking, make sure the water is not boiling too rapidly. It should just bubble slightly. Once the dumplings float to the surface, they are done.
